Mystic Phoenix Art Presents
A lot of people say you're not supposed to switch from palm rolling to interlocking however, I ended up doing this in January 2017. I went from palm rolling to interlocking on my 7 year old mature dreadlocks. I started and have maintained my locs myself so it's definitely been a learning process. My reason for switching was because I wanted to no longer use any chemicals in my hair. I was using Jamaican Mango & Lime Locking Gel which was working great but as I'm transitioning some aspects in my life I really wanted a chemical free maintenance. I could have opted to free form my locs however I prefer that my roots are cleaner. I didn't want to use butters or oils because my scalp is prone to acne. For me the best alternative was interlocking.
I watched a few YouTube tutorials and a-interlocking I went. Overall the experience has been pleasant. I did have a mishap and that was due to me over-tightening a few locs. Other than that I have enjoyed the transition and I like that I can wash my hair more frequently. (I would put it off because I didn't want to disturb my fresh retwist) I've been using a crochet hook which works well, but I'd come across a really cool tool that someone shared in one of the Facebook Groups. This peeked my curiosity and I went gathering information about the different loc tools available.
Please, if you know of any other interlocking tools please share them with me in the comments. I'll be sure to post updates as I try the different tools. Stainless Steel Loc Tool
Plastic Sewing Needle
Latching Tool
